How many business days are between two dates?

Count the working days between two dates, or find the date that is a number of working days away. Choose your weekend, and skip US or UK public holidays.

How working days are counted

The calculator walks through the calendar one day at a time. A day counts if it is not a weekend day and not one of the public holidays you chose. When adding working days, it keeps stepping until it has passed the number of working days you asked for, then shows the date it landed on.

Business days = calendar days − weekend days − holidays on weekdays

A holiday that falls on a weekend is not subtracted twice. In the US and the UK it is usually moved to a nearby weekday instead (the “observed” day), and the tables below already show those observed dates.

Questions people ask

What counts as a business day?

A business day is a day that is not part of the weekend and not a public holiday. In most of the world that means Monday to Friday. In much of the Middle East the weekend is Friday and Saturday, and a few countries rest only on Friday or only on Sunday. Pick your weekend above.

Are the start and end dates included?

When counting between two dates, both dates are included if they are working days. That is how “business days from the 1st to the 10th” is usually meant. When adding working days, the start date is not counted: 1 business day after Friday is Monday.

Which holidays are included?

You can choose US federal holidays or bank holidays in England and Wales. Both follow the official rules, including the days a holiday is observed when it falls on a weekend. One-off holidays announced by a government, and state or regional holidays, are not included. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different bank holidays.

What date is 10 business days from today?

Choose “Add working days”, type 10 and leave the start date as today. With a Saturday–Sunday weekend and no holidays, 10 business days is always exactly two weeks later, on the same weekday.

Is this suitable for legal or court deadlines?

It is a reliable calendar count, but courts and contracts often have their own rules: some exclude the first day, some move a deadline that lands on a holiday, and many count calendar days rather than business days. Check the rule that applies to you.
