How many days until a date?

Pick a date, and a time if it matters. The countdown runs live to the second, and the link updates so you can share it.

Ready-made countdowns

Whole days and calendar days

There are two honest ways to say how long is left. Whole days counts complete 24-hour periods until the target moment, which is what the large number shows. Calendar days counts how many dates you cross, ignoring the time of day: from any time on Monday to Friday is 4 calendar days.

Calendar days = target date − today’s date

Close to the event the two differ by one, and both are shown so you can use whichever fits.

Questions people ask

How many days until a specific date?

Choose the date above. The leaf shows the whole days left, and the lines under it show the hours, minutes and seconds, ticking live. Leave the time empty to count down to the start of that day (midnight).

Does the countdown use my time zone?

Yes. The target time is read in your device’s time zone, so a countdown to midnight on New Year’s Eve reaches zero at midnight where you are. If you share the link with someone in another time zone, it counts to midnight in theirs.

Can I share my countdown?

Yes. The page address updates as you type, including the name you give the event. Copy it from your browser’s address bar and send it; anyone who opens it sees the same countdown.

Why is the day count one less than I expected?

The leaf shows whole days left, so on December 24 at 9 a.m. there are 0 whole days and 15 hours until Christmas. If you want calendar days (“1 day until Christmas”), the line “Calendar days” counts the dates between today and the target, which is what most countdown pages mean.
